Dear North High Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! This is an exciting time of year for all of us. The new school year presents and opportunity to refocus on the importance of setting and reaching goals for the year. North is a fantastic school for many reasons and the hard work of the faculty, staff, parents and students this summer will result in another successful year for all members of our school community. During the 2013-2014 year, one of our important achievements was earning a 6-year WASC accreditation! The WASC report provided compelling evidence of our many strengths and helped us identify targets for continued improvement during the coming years. This past year, we also piloted Common Core instructional strategies in many of our classes. During this school year, all teachers will be implementing rigorous Common Core instruction. We look forward to another productive year of learning, growth and accomplishments for our students and school.
We are a large, diverse and complex high school and community. We strive to offer the best possible education to each of our students. There are many chances for students at North to demonstrate excellence. We are happy to have a fourth counselor this year-which means we can provide more attention and support to each student. In addition, we are opening a new College and Career Center, staffed with a College and Career Coordinator! We ask that you, the parents, join us in encouraging your students to view school as an opportunity to improve their lives and create choices for their future. We encourage parents to be vigilant and monitor student progress by checking on Parent Connect at least once per week. Students are expected to maintain excellent attendance – arriving on time in every class. Thank you in advance for your support.
Our school wouldn’t be the same without the generosity and active support of our parent and community organizations. I invite you to take a leadership role and make a difference! I encourage you to be involved in our school by working with your students(s) at home – encouraging academic excellence and responsibility – and taking part in volunteer groups such as the PTA, Booster Clubs, School Site Council and Advisory Committees. There are so many needs!

If you do not have access to a computer, please come to the main office after August 14th and ask a secretary for assistance. Please follow instructions provided in this packet. In case of an emergency or accident, we must have updated and accurate contact information and phone numbers so we can reach parents and guardians. We send important information via email on a regular basis and also need your email address.
Our faculty and staff consider it a tremendous responsibility and an honor to be part of your student’s present and future. We look forward to working with you to meet the needs of our school and our multi-talented student body. Best wishes to all for a happy and healthy summer and a productive and successful school year.
With Saxon Pride,
Ronald Richardson, Ed.D. North High Principal
